Water-Heater Repair vs. Replacement: Questions to Ask
Repair-versus-replacement is an on-site decision. Ask where the failure is, what the repair includes, how the unit’s age affects the recommendation, and what warranties and total costs apply to each option.
Identify the actual failure
No hot water, a faulty control, a leaking connection, and a leaking tank are different conditions. A provider should explain what failed before recommending work.
Compare the complete cost of each option
Ask whether the quote includes the unit, removal, installation materials, code-related work, disposal, permits when applicable, and warranty terms. Avoid comparing only one line item.
Consider age and condition without using a rigid cutoff
Unit age can inform the decision, but it does not diagnose the problem by itself. Maintenance history, corrosion, tank condition, parts availability, household needs, and the repair scope also matter.
Ask who stands behind the work
Confirm the independent provider’s labor terms and the manufacturer’s equipment warranty. ATL Plumber Connect does not issue or administer provider warranties.
